Data preparation for Open Acess (OA)

New projects funded by Ministry of Youth and Sports require that all data are uploaded onto a data repositary. This has to be done BEFORE FIRST SUBMISSION of the paper. It’s very likely that all future projects will require this. Currently, two main projects we have are Advanced Multiscale Materials for Key Enabling Technologies project (AMULET), Project No. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/ 0004558 and The Energy Conversion and Storage (ECO&Stor), project No. CZ.02.01.01/00/22_008/0004617. Based on which project is being affiliated the procedure is slightly different. Preprint also has to be uploaded BEFORE FIRST SUBMISSION. Preprint is a PDF version of the manuscript being submitted (before any revisions etc.). Since the procedure is different for both projects i need to know beforehand, which one of them is going go be affiliated. Therefore, if Zdeněk tells you to contact me regarding the dataset preparation, ask him first what affiliation he wants to add, because based on that, the process will vary.

1. Data Preparation

  • Identical for both affiliated projects
  • Create folders based on names of methods (e.g. Cyclic voltammetry, XPS etc.)
  • If there are data in the supporting information (SI), create a folder called „supporting information“
  • Within the „supporting information“ folder, create folders based on methods (make sure that if a method is both in main manuscript and the SI you name them the same e.g. XPS)
  • Use a proper name for data (e.g. Al 2p spectrum of Mo2TiAlC2) that reflects the name of the experiment; NOTE: don’t use Figures in names e.g. Figure S1a

Files to include:

  • All raw data as csv (whenever applicable so almost all cases)
  • Images DO NOT HAVE to be included, decision is up to you (and they don’t need it for ECO&Stor unless it was used to read a value from the image, when applicable)
  • If plots are made from data points (e.g. capacity vs cycle number), also include those

Structure of the data:

  • Typical structure where you label what is X axis and what is Y axis
  • Label quantity (e.g. Voltage) and units (e.g. V)
  • If there is one X value for multiple Y values, label properly
  • If there are multiple conditions (e.g. different voltages etc.) make sure you label it properly
  • DO NOT separate quantity/units/conditions with comma (,) or semicolon (;) – that’s used for data separation (based on your excel settings), dash (-) or slash (/) should be fine

example:

  • Note: you don’t have to use excel, but it’s probably the easiest solution
  • Once saved as *.csv you can try to to open the file in notepad to see if everything is ok with the file, if everything is ok it should look similar to this

 ◳ ex2 (png) → (originál)

2. Readme File Preparation

  •  I  will do it (Jan Luxa, luxaj@vscht.cz)

3. Send Me the Files and Data

  • When you have data ready in a proper way you will have to send me the following list (luxaj@vscht.cz):
    • Your data divided into folders as described in section 1.
    • List of ORCID identifiers for all authors
    • Final version of the manuscript ready for submission – I will add the link for dataset into the paper and also use it to upload as a preprint, once done, I will send you the manuscript back with zenodo link; CHECK WITH THE PUBLISHER if they allow preprints (usually the case in open access regime)

4. After Publishing

  • Dataset doesn’t have to be updated during revision, however, once accepted, we have to update the dataset with all new data
  • For this purpose use the procedure described in section 1. where you add the new data and send it to me

Once the manuscript has been accepted, NOTIFY ME (luxaj@vscht.cz), there are additional things i have to update, but unless i know it’s been published, then i can’t do that
